A Young Gentleman Needs Counseling For His Intense Depression, Relationship Problems, and For His Drug Addiction and Alcohol Dependency in Order to Find Happiness in His Life

Nearly eight months ago I had breakfast with a thirty-four-year-old man named Alexander who experiences intense depression, has relationship issues, and who is addicted to drugs and alcohol. As mentioned by Alexander, it is his alcoholism and drug addiction and his intense depression that had the most to do with his perpetual relationship problems.

I recollect hearing that a history of mental health concerns, chemical dependency, and hazardous drinking often take place in the same family. Furthermore, I have read that under such circumstances, a person needs to get counseling for both medical problems and that addiction and mental health issues often occur in the same individual.

As explained by Alexander, he is so defeated by his relationship issues and by both of his medical issues that he essentially has little or no aspiration to achieve much of anything. What is particularly unfortunate about this is that earlier in his life, Alexander managed to complete four semesters of graduate school in astronomy.

Alexander’s situation makes me wonder if he is an example of a person who can address his drug abuse and alcohol drinking problems and do something constructive about these difficulties or if he is an individual who has to hit the very bottom before he gets drug and alcohol treatment that results in long lasting recovery.

The Need For a Treatment Program He Can Believe In and a Psychologist He Can Trust

If it would be helpful I would imagine that I could recommend numerous websites that could possibly help him locate information about drug abuse symptoms, the stages of alcoholism, substance abuse information, and relationship difficulties. From my vantage point, nevertheless, Alexander needs to locate a rehabilitation program he can believe in and follow through over the long haul and locate a healthcare professional he can trust.

I could be incorrect but it seems to make sense that Alexander more likely than not needs to look in the mirror regarding his drug addiction signs and alcoholic symptoms and acknowledge the fact that he cannot abuse drugs or even drink in moderation if he wants to get sober, remain sober, and start on the route to long-lasting sobriety.

It may be asked how treatment would help his drug and alcohol dependency. For starters, there are quite a few newly developed doctor-prescribed meds that can help Alexander through the alcohol and drug detoxification process, through his withdrawal symptoms, and help him avoid an alcohol or a drug relapse.

Second, Alexander would learn to admit the fact that there is completely nothing productive about drug addiction and abusive and careless drinking and that involving himself in one or both circumstances is the map to a premature death, poor work and school performance, financial difficulties, legal problems, deteriorating health, and shattered relationships.

Third, treatment for his depression and for his relationship issues might help him cope with these psychological issues more effectively and possibly create less of a need for him to involve himself in addictive behavior.

The Relevance of Recovery Groups Like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous

There are more likely than not numerous friends, other people, and family members who would want to help Alexander with his substance abuse and his careless drinking. He more likely than not would experience greater sympathy from a support group such as Narcotics Anonymous or Alcoholics Anonymous, then again, instead of getting guidance from people who rarely drink or who have never used drugs.

When People Do Things They Like and About Which They Are Zealous

There’s a school of thought in life that declares that people who accomplish things they like and something about which they are ardent reach a fantastic place in life. Stated more explicitly, when people do what they love, they rarely if ever experience boredom or an uneventful life. If they involve themselves in something that is satisfying, furthermore, they become more fulfilled and experience more contentment and delight in life and in their relationships.

When this is thought about for a short while it becomes obvious that this uplifting viewpoint is widely divergent from a life that is grounded in drug and alcohol addiction because such a lifestyle removes the happiness and delight that life has to offer.

Due to the fact that Alexander lacks the willpower to carry out much of anything in his life, it is plain to see that he urgently needs a little hope for a more productive existence. And the unfortunate thing is that hope is all around Alexander if he could only get to the place in life to get the counseling he needs for his severe depression and drug dependence and alcohol addiction and stay with his treatment routine.

Better Relationships, Happiness, Productive Change, Self Respect, and a Wonderful Life Are Possibilities

Alexander is clearly too young to be dejected in life. He doesn’t comprehend this at this time in his life but if he can learn how to remove himself from alcohol and drugs through alcohol and drug rehab and get the treatment he requires for his acute depression, he can turn his life around and start living with direction, self-respect, and passion.

More meaningful relationships, happiness, a wonderful life, self respect, and affirmative change are certainly a reality for Alexander if only he could become inspired to get the medical treatment he needs, follow through with his therapy regimen, live his life in a dependency-free and healthy way, and learn how to develop a more positive attitude about his life.
