How Proper Ear Piercing Can Benefit You Long Term

Okay so go back some years and remember if this is a familiar story, you and your mom are out shopping for say oh I don’t know, a henckels knife set, you come across a sign that says Ear Piercing $5 you big your mom and eventually she says yes, you sit on a box whilst some kid comes at you with something that looks like a gun! Ouch!

Body modification of which ear piercing is most certainly a part of is getting more popular and more accepted these days, the people that practise these modifications are under more regulations and understand more about better and easier methods that create less trauma and pain for the piercee. These people like many others want ear guns to be banned.

The larger companies out there might say they are safe but that will really come with a very large disclaimer and anyone complaining afterwards will be told it was probably their own fault for not cleaning or using their after care suggestions, this is simply nonsense. The guns cannot be fully cleaned and can quite easily hold bacteria and diseases even potentially fatal ones.

When a lobe or other part is pierced with a needle the piercer rarely has to use much force because the needle is so sharp that it causes very little trauma to the area. With ear piercing guns the blunt jewellery is fired at force through the lobe causing blunt force trauma and this is why many people especially young children end up in A&E needing treatment for infections, trauma and swelling where the butterfly back has ended up embedded in the ear. You may as well give your knife block set a try after all its about the same idea!

Yet parents still endlessly take their children to these shops where little or no training is given to the person using the gun, the gun can be carrying a host of diseases or bacteria and you basically hurt and cause unnecessary damage to an ear lobe.

So what is the alternative? How about a properly licensed and regulated body piercer? Okay they may charge more but that’s because they will have had training on things such as blood borne pathogens, have fully autoclaved sterilization procedures (no nothing is boiled in a countertop microwave ), the correct jewellery tailored for the individual etc.

The extra few bucks you pay to go to a piercing will mean that you will have a good half an hour spent on you and you alone, you’ll be talked through the process, correct jewellery just for you will be selected that will not irritate you, after care will be fully explained and you will have the chance to pop back in for a check up too! Don’t get that in stores now do you?
