Miss Benning was a health teacher at the most financially challenged co-educational high school in the county. Even though she had been teaching for only five years, she had already established a reputation as a teacher with instructional methods that motivated and inspired the pupils in her class to learn and to think.

For example, one Monday morning at 9:00 she addressed the pupils in her classroom and announced the following: “For the next three or four days we are going to learn about some basic alcoholism facts from a more wide-ranging viewpoint and we are also going to learn about some of the most typical signs of alcoholism from a more specific perspective.”

“Not all of these alcoholism signs will categorically validate that a drinker with a drinking problem is an alcohol dependent person, but the more signs that a drinker displays, the greater the probability that he or she is an individual who is alcohol dependent.”

Miss Benning then explained to the students in the class that each person would be responsible for investigating three alcohol dependence signs and then presenting his or her results to the other class members via a twenty minute oral presentation.

The Pupils are Excited About Giving An In-Depth Presentation to Their Fellow Students About The Signs of Alcoholism

After learning about the diverse signs of alcoholism for several days, the time had arrived for the student presentations. It was immediately apparent that the students in her class were enthused about the topic because the information that they presented was first-rate. To say that Miss Benning was pleasantly surprised with the eagerness exhibited by her students regarding this topic could not be overstated.

The day after all of the students completed their presentations, Miss Benning passed out a piece of paper with a list of all the alcohol addiction signs that were discussed and presented in class and in the presentations. Miss Benning then asked the pupils in her classroom to go over the list and rank the top ten alcohol dependency signs that were most indicative of alcoholism. After approximately fifteen minutes, Miss Benning collected the sheets of paper and explained to her students that after she goes over the numbers, she will present her findings the next school day.

There was some real excitement by the pupils while they were exiting Miss Benning’s class. One could swear that her students couldn’t wait for the next day to arrive so that they could learn about the outcome of their in-class research.

The Students Contrast Their Answers With the Evaluations From A Team of Alcohol Addiction Specialists

When the next school day finally came, Miss Benning handed out a sheet of paper that listed the top four alcoholism signs as per the pupils’ rankings. To the left of these results, she included another column that was labeled “experts’ answer.” She then informed the students in her classroom that the numbers in the second column she added were the findings that were generated by a group of drug and alcohol addiction authorities.

Miss Benning told the students in her class to look over the data on the sheet of paper she passed out and then to raise their hand if they had any issues, concerns, or questions. Within 10 or 20 seconds, just about every pupil in the classroom raised his or her hand. It was apparent that the pupils had some issues, concerns, or questions about their results versus the answers given by the professionals. As an illustration, virtually every person in the classroom disagreed with the highest ranked answer given by the specialists, namely, “Do you feel extremely sick when you refrain from drinking?”

The Essential Difference Between Alcohol Addiction and Alcohol Abuse is the Physical Addiction That is Experienced With Alcohol Addiction and Not With Alcohol Abuse

Miss Benning then told the pupils in her class why this answer was the most unambiguous indicator of alcohol addiction. She emphasized the fact that the chief difference between alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency is the physical dependency that is experienced with alcohol dependency and not with alcohol abuse.

Primarily this means that when an alcohol dependent person all of a sudden stops drinking, he or she will experience alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

Miss Benning then explained to the students in her classroom that alcohol withdrawal symptoms are responses by the body and by the brain to the deprivation of alcohol to which they had become accustomed. Stated more forcefully, alcohol withdrawal symptoms are signals from the body and from the brain telling a person who is addicted to alcohol that something is dreadfully incorrect and needs to be fixed. These messages consist of a number of painful, dangerous, and uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms that can possibly result in a loss of life if the appropriate treatment is not immediately obtained.

Miss Benning then listed the many diverse alcohol withdrawal symptoms that can be gone through when an alcohol dependent person suddenly stops drinking.

The fact that Miss Benning tried to highlight was this: a person who engages in alcohol abuse can experience almost any and every one of the alcohol dependency signs that the students had ranked, but the one sign or symptom that few, if any, alcohol abusers ever experience is alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

To explain this as clearly as possible, Miss Benning emphasized the fact that alcohol abusers, unlike alcohol dependent people, are not alcohol dependent and accordingly, when they stop drinking, they almost never suffer from alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

The Pupils Believe They Have Discovered An Irregularity With the Findings From The Group of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Experts

The students also disagreed with the second ranked answer given by the alcohol dependency professionals, to be exact, “Have you ever had a drink the first thing in the morning to steady your nerves or to get rid of a hangover?”

Miss Benning explained to the pupils in her classroom that this sign does not automatically imply that the problem is alcohol dependency, but that it does point to the need that people who are alcohol dependent have to drink in order to avert alcohol withdrawals.

After Miss Benning explained the importance of alcohol withdrawal symptoms in the life of the individual who is alcohol dependent, the pupils started to grasp the major difference between alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction.

To add a sense of closure to the subject matter, Miss Benning asked her students to take out a piece of paper and answer the following question: “if every person who is addicted to alcohol knew about every one of the alcoholism signs and alcohol withdrawal symptoms we have studied, what percentage of them do you think would obtain alcoholism rehab?”

After approximately three or four minutes, Miss Benning asked for the pupils’ answers. While many students believed that around 85 to 95 percent of people who are alcohol dependent would seek alcohol dependency rehabilitation if they knew about the facts related to alcohol withdrawal symptoms and alcohol dependency signs, most of the students believed that this number would not be less than 60 percent.

The Students Were Surprised to Learn That Only 25% of Alcoholics in the United States Ask For Alcohol Addiction Treatment

To the shock of most of the pupils, Miss Benning stated that according to various scientific investigations, only 25% of the alcoholics in the U.S. ask for alcohol treatment. This astonished most of the students because they reasoned that first hand experience of the appalling statistics and facts correlated with alcohol dependency would motivate the majority of the alcohol dependent individuals to obtain alcohol addiction rehab.

Miss Benning then explained that alcohol addicted individuals not only need alcohol on a daily basis in order to function but they also require alcohol on a daily basis so they can avoid possible alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Apparently, the alcohol dependent individual’s need to drink on a daily basis is more powerful than facts or logic. To be sure, because the desire for alcohol is “reality” to the alcohol addicted individual, this is a thorny issue that is hard to change.

The Occurrence of Mental Health Difficulties and Alcohol Dependency Regularly Results in Relationship, Divorce, Friendship, and Marital Problems

Lastly, Miss Benning explained to the pupils in her class that it is relevant to comprehend that alcohol addiction and a range of mental health issues like depression are highly related. What is more, the combination of mental health problems and alcohol addiction often lead to relationship, divorce, marital, and friendship problems.

The Students are Eager to Learn About Alcoholism Symptoms and Signs in Today’s Society

A few minutes later the bell rang, indicating the end of the class. Based on the buzz displayed by the pupils when they were leaving the classroom, Miss Benning knew that she had encouraged and stimulated the students in her class to stop and think about an important health and social problem that exists in our country. Clearly, her students also learned how to boost their self esteem, personal happiness and success, and positive attitude.

Teresa was a thirty-four-year-old receptionist who realized that she had some problems with her drinking. For example, within the past six months she has felt the need to have several drinks before going to work, four weeks ago she tested positive for a blood alcohol test where she is employed, seven weeks ago she got arrested by the state highway patrol for a DUI, and last but not least, for about six months she has started to forget what she does and says when she drinks with her friends.

Like other individuals, Teresa’s alcohol involvement began little by little and continued at this speed for quite some time due to the fact every once in a while she engaged in intermittent social drinking. In fact, for almost four years, every time she went out to drink, she made sure to drink in a responsible manner. Something about her drinking circumstances, nonetheless, seemed to radically change when she got divorced.

So She Can Overcome the Breakup of Her Husband With Less Sorrow, Teresa Made Up Her Mind That She Will Start Palling Around More Repeatedly With Some of Her Pals Who Love to Whoop it Up and Drink

Teresa got awfully despondent about the loss of her husband, and as a way to abstain from her preoccupation with her depressing emotions she arrived at a decision that she would start hanging out more often with some of her pals who love to party.

Quite honestly, Teresa thought that having fun just about every day by drinking and partying with her pals would help her get over the breakup of her husband with less distress.

Teresa’s Drinking Escalates Significantly the More Routinely She Goes to Sporting Events, Happy Hours, Family Get-Togethers, Dinner Dates, and Private Parties With Her Friends

It didn’t take too long, nonetheless, before her drinking increased considerably the more frequently she went to and drank at dinner dates, private parties, happy hours, sporting events, and family get-togethers with her buddies. Moreover, the fact that her drinking friends were all many years younger than she was and therefore able to party more frequently and harder was one of the reasons why she didn’t focus more on her increased drinking. Simply put, she was drinking and having a great time just like everybody else in her group of buddies without giving too much consideration about the effects of her hazardous and irresponsible drinking.

Yet somewhere in the recesses of her mind she realized that she more likely than not needed alcohol rehabilitation but steered clear of the thought as much as possible.

Teresa Gets a Physical Exam, Acknowledges Her Excessive and Irresponsible Drinking to Her Healthcare Professional, and Owns Up to the Truth About Her Constant Negativity

One day during her six-month physical examination, her doctor asked her if she drank alcohol. Not wanting to tell falsehoods to her healthcare professional, Teresa ”came clean” and stated that she routinely drinks more than she should. As a matter of fact, she said that she routinely drinks in an abusive manner. Then Teresa informed her physician about her dejection. More precisely, she mentioned that ruined relationships often caused a dismal chain of events typified by increased drinking which further led to more negative feelings that, in turn, led to even more drinking. And this is precisely what took place when her husband and she got divorced four months ago.

When her physician heard this, he informed Teresa that according to various alcoholism facts and statistics on alcoholism he was reviewing, alcoholism and depression frequently take place in the same person. He then told Teresa that some of the alcohol statistics, research investigations, and facts he has been studying also underscore the fact that individuals who drink in an abusive and irresponsible manner and who also experience depression need to receive treatment for both medical conditions.

Teresa’s Doctor Schedules an Appointment for a Psychological Appraisal and For an Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse Appraisal

Teresa’s healthcare practitioner then said the following: “I am not trying to make an impulsive judgment, but with your medical situation we may be dealing with two separate problems. As a consequence, I think we probably need to schedule an appointment for you to get an alcohol abuse and alcoholism assessment from my partner, Dr. Jackson, who is an alcohol and drug addiction specialist. Whether your drinking situation is more correlated with alcoholism or alcohol abuse is unclear at this time, but I think that further assessment is justifiable. Then I feel we need to make an appointment for you to get a psychological exam from another one of my partners, Dr. Siegel, who is a counseling psychologist. I want to get some more information about your pessimism and see how much your depression and drinking are interlinked.” Teresa showed her satisfaction with her physician’s “game plan” and thanked him for his help and concern.

In reality, Teresa now experienced a sense of personal self esteem and happiness because she finally got inspired to do something positive about her excessive drinking and her depression. Now all she had to do was to try to reduce her drinking and get ready for her appointments.

How many individuals lose their lives every year because of drinking problems? How many people lose their lives each year from a condition that is 100% preventable, such as alcohol poisoning? How many people are the victims of alcohol related crime or violence each and every year? How many individuals get injured or lose their lives in alcohol related traffic accidents every year? How many people’s lives are cut short due to abusive and unhealthy drinking? How many children are born each year with fetal alcohol syndrome? On an annual basis, how many alcoholics fail to get the professional alcohol treatment they require? How many individuals face severe consequences in their lives because they received a “drunk driving” conviction? How many junior high, high school, and college students lose their lives every year due to an alcohol overdose?

Why Would Anyone Want to Drink in an Irresponsible and Abusive Manner?

So what’s the point in asking these questions? Basically to highlight the devastating and destructive nature of abusive and careless drinking. Indeed, and based on the above questions, I wonder why anyone would choose to drink in an excessive and abusive manner.

Stated another way, with the host of relationship problems, financial difficulties, legal proceedings, employment dilemmas, and health issues that are interrelated with alcoholism and chronic alcohol abuse, why would any person with good reasoning skills want to drink in an abusive manner? If truth be told when some of the above topics are looked at more closely, abusive drinking becomes more illogical and makes even less sense.

Wouldn’t you think that heavy drinkers would be able to see some of the alcohol symptoms that they exhibit? In a similar manner doesn’t it seem logical to think that many more families would involve themselves in an alcohol intervention for the individual in the household who is an alcohol abuser or an alcoholic? Not only this but wouldn’t you think that individuals who drink abusively would try to learn more about their drinking behavior by researching various alcohol related statistics?

After reviewing the findings, the point is so critical that it needs to be repeated: With all of the dangerous and disastrous consequences that are directly or indirectly correlated with continuous and repetitive alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse, why would any person want to engage in abusive drinking?

What Can be Done About the Widespread Nature of Alcohol Addiction and Alcohol Abuse in the United States?

So what can be done about the widespread nature of alcohol abuse and alcoholism in our country?

Our students need more relevant and more meaningful preventative and educational methods and approaches so that more students at all grade levels, including those at college, are “reached.

With a similar line of reasoning, our students need to learn how to become problem solvers in life rather than getting easily attracted to the ”quick fix” and the “instant gratification” of a drug or alcohol abuse ”high” or “buzz”.

People who are alcohol abusers or alcohol dependent need to look look at themselves frankly and ask why they are not getting the professional alcohol therapy they require.

Society needs to get the message to more individuals about the debilitating and unhealthy outcomes of continuous and repeated drinking.

There’s Room For Hope if Those Who Engage in Abusive Drinking Can Become Encouraged to Get the Alcohol Rehab They Need

There’s lots of room for hope and optimism if individuals can start drinking in moderation and those who engage in careless and excessive drinkingcan become motivated to get the alcohol rehabilitation they need. Indeed, why put your loved ones through turmoil, suffering and pain because of your hazardous and abusive drinking when you have the power to control your life by drinking in moderation or even quitting drinking if you cannot control your drinking behavior? Why not fortify your personal happiness, positive attitude, and your self esteem that are the effects of alcohol rehab?

Nanette Geiger, Law of Attraction Relationship Best Selling Author , writes… …

When you desire a thing you don’t have, say a wonderful relationship or financial independence, for example, and you’ve been desiring this for quite a while — 9 months, maybe several years, and it still has not shown up — then there is resistance blocking you. There’s some key factor not quite right in the area of your energy level. If you allow yourself the time and care enough to clean up your energy, you will be in an attractive mode and finally let in what you want.

Here is the problem: we don’t usuallly know what is wrong with our vibration. These tiny vibrational differences have existed long enough, we do not even realize they’re there. Just like the low purr of the machine in the background, it simply fades into the background. I like to call these vibrational differences counter-intentions.

A counter-intention just projects a very ingrained thought pattern that’s been conditioned into us by previous generations. A counter-intention means a limited thought pattern or a conversation based in the history of failing or lack of power. If you don’t realize what your counter-intentions are, that’s okay. Just realize if what you desire is not showing up, something is stopping you, and project a clear intention of what you want. You can create your own Law of Attraction Relationships right now and increase your level of creative energy!

1. State what you want.

2. Tune in to what mental dialogue you may have acquired about why you cannot have it.

3. When negative emotion surfaces about why you can’t have what you desire or why it is taken such a long time for it to arrive, soothe yourself into a better feeling thought.

Most people think that you have to quantum leap your energy level prior to actual manifestation. Not so. You simply have to be a little bit more positive consistently. You should be paying attention so you can know when you’re not a match to your desire. Thoughts tend to fly by fast, that is why tuning in to what you feel helps you catch what is going on in the area of your energy.

Do the practice – it will be worth it. If you need the support of a Law of Attraction Coach, by all means get support! Using an unbiased listener to check in with can help you move away from outdated patterns much more quickly.

Keep with it, before you realize your friends will be asking you “how is it that you married the man of your dreams, get offered all-expenses paid cruises and write bestselling books?!” Using the Law of Attraction is amazingly powerful for Relationships Attraction, and is not hard to grasp.

This, my friend (if you desire it) CAN be YOU! Here’s to Happiness and Mastery!

The medical community defines numerous diseases as “silent killers.” Medical conditions like high blood pressure, mesothelioma, osteoporosis, heart disease, obstructive sleep apnea, high cholesterol, diabetes and many types of cancer like colon cancer, lung cancer, rectal cancer, and breast cancer are rather well known silent killers.

These medical disorders are called silent killers because early on in the medical disorder there are commonly no symptoms to imply that a difficulty exists. Then as the medical condition evolves, conversely, and as the symptoms begin to appear, a medical disaster can result.

Abusive and Unhealthy Drinking Is a Silent Killer

I affirm that irresponsible drinking is also a silent killer. In truth, some individuals can drink for many years without suffering from any major alcohol related issues in their lives. When irresponsible and abusive drinking continues for a considerable number of years, it can be highlighted, serious alcohol effects become more detectable and more daunting. Maybe the best example of what I am taking about takes place in the transition from alcohol abuse to alcohol dependency.

Unmistakably, many alcohol induced problems can be camouflaged and fairly well hidden while an individual involves himself or herself in irresponsible and hazardous drinking. When the individual actually becomes a lifelong alcohol abuser or an alcohol addicted person, it can be stated, dangerous alcohol effects become very evident and more serious. Regrettably, this info about alcoholism and alcohol abuse doesn’t appear to be conversed about as much as it ought to be.

Areas in Life That are Adversely Affected by Excessive and Abusive Drinking Over Time

What are a few of the areas in life that are negatively affected over time by repeated and continuous drinking behavior? At first, when individuals engage in heavy and abusive drinking, they are often unaware of what their abusive drinking is doing to their health, to their jobs, to their relationships, to their mental health, and to their finances.

As the heavy and abusive drinking is repeated over time, on the other hand, it frequently results in commitment, marital, relationship, communication, and friendship difficulties and often results in affairs and divorce. In a similar way, many, if not most individuals who involve themselves in alcohol abuse in the long run experience alcohol induced health issues such as alcohol poisoning, hangovers, sleep disturbances, and a loss of energy. Other alcohol induced medical conditions include the following: stomach ulcers, liver disease, nerve damage, sexual problems, and vitamin deficiency.

Moreover, many, if not most people who engage in alcohol abuse in the long run go through alcohol related financial problems. Ironically, while many heavy drinkers whine about their financial circumstances, they usually make their financial situation worse by spending more of their money on alcoholic beverages.

Stress Management, Anger Management, and Time Management Problems

Similarly, hazardous and irresponsible drinking regularly results in anger management, stress management, and time management issues. In addiction, many, if not most people who engage in alcohol abuse, due to their abusive and excessive drinking, eventually display work difficulties such as showing up late for work, alcohol related accidents, poor performance evaluations, absenteeism, and making mistakes on the job.

Mental Health Issues Like Depression

Additionally, irresponsible and abusive drinking in the long run results in different mental health issues such as extreme mood swings, denial, anxiety, depression, and obsession. And finally, it should come as no surprise that people who engage in alcohol abuse can get a DUI almost any night or day of the week due to their irresponsible and abusive drinking and driving.

The Moral of the Story

The point is this: people who involve themselves in irresponsible drinking need to learn how to drink in moderation or get the alcohol detoxification and the alcohol therapy they need. This is important for people who involve themselves in hazardous drinking so that they can either drink responsibly and in moderation or start to lead an alcohol free life and stay away from the huge amount of alcohol related problems stated above. Undoubtedly, obtaining high quality alcohol abuse help will be important along these lines.

It is also significant for individuals who engage in abusive drinking to either learn how to drink responsibly and in moderation or totally refrain from drinking so that they can stay away from a life of alcohol dependency. To put it briefly, people who abuse alcohol need to abstain from hazardous and irresponsible drinking so that they can avoid the alcohol related silent killers that are linked to abusive and excessive drinking. Again, getting exceptional alcohol abuse rehab will certainly go a long way toward achieving this goal.

Warren is a sixty-two-year-old man who is the top administrator in the human resources department at a large plastics molding company. To help reduce the costs associated with poor employee work performance, work related injuries, employee alcoholism and alcohol abuse, excessive sick days, and increasing absenteeism, Warren and the other company administrators launched some programs that made the work atmosphere significantly more safe, healthy, and more productive.

For example, ten years ago Warren and the other members of upper management implemented an Employee’s Assistance Program so that all the workers had access to first-rate counseling for their personal problems that could adversely affect their health, personal well-being, and their work performance.

The Company Leaders Construct a Modern Exercise and Workout Room Complete With Exercise Charts, Scales, Exercise Equipment, Weights, a Personal Trainer During Business Hours, and Mirrors

As another example, just about nine years ago Warren and the other members of upper management assembled a new exercise and workout room complete with many different types of exercise equipment, scales, weights, a professional trainer during business hours, exercise charts, and mirrors.

Furthermore, just about three years ago Warren and the other company administrators invested in a purification system that filters all the drinking water that is obtainable anywhere in the building complex. In much the same way, two-and-a-half years ago, Warren and the other company executives started a “walking club” that is essentially intended for employees who want to improve upon their cardiovascular system.

The Company Leaders Initiate a Weight-Watchers Class and Hire a Weight-Loss Professional to Manage the Program

As another example, about two-and-a-half years ago, Warren and the other company leaders established a “Weight-Watchers” class that at this moment in time meets every weekday at 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Moreover, the VIPs signed up a weight-loss professional to supervise the program.

Similarly, a year-and-a-half ago Warren and the other members of upper management instituted a “Stop Smoking Club” for workers who want to quit or cut back on their smoking.

In the last nine months, in combination with the Employee’s Assistance Program, Warren and the other company leaders initiated an “Anger Management” class for workers who want to learn how to better deal with their temper.

The Company Administrators Establish a Drug and Alcohol Testing Program

In the last two-and-a-half months, Warren and the other VIPs launched a alcohol and drug testing program that is related to their drug and alcohol abuse prevention program. In actual fact, Warren is the main individual in the company responsible for getting the message out to all the employees about the drug and alcohol testing program as well as the drug and alcohol abuse prevention program.

One of the fundamental elements of the drug and alcohol abuse prevention program is a class entitled “Alcoholism and Depression” that meets every Tuesday after work. The main idea with this class is informing workers that hazardous drinking and depression often take place in the same individual. It is hoped that knowing this information will be able to help a person address both medical issues and get the alcohol treatment and mental health therapy he or she requires.

The Company Leaders Start an Alcohol Statistics and Facts Class

Another relatively recent enhancement to the drug and alcohol abuse prevention program is a class entitled “Alcohol Statistics and Facts.” The reasoning behind this alcohol statistics facts class is the reality that many people fail to recognize the full impact of the effects of alcohol abuse and alcoholism without first learning about some of the alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency statistics and facts that are available. As a consequence, one of the goals of this class is to provide a range of alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse statistics and facts in order to help employees gain a better understanding of the multitude of difficulties that are related to abusive and hazardous drinking and how they can stop these difficulties from transpiring.

Most recently, Warren and the other company administrators, via observations from employees, developed a class that centers directly on severe drinking entitled “What is Alcoholism”? This class meets every Wednesday morning an hour-and-a-half before work and focuses for the most part on the differences between alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction, on the stages of alcoholism, and on the types of therapy that are available for people who have alcohol drinking problems such as people who drink in an irresponsible manner.

Although every single one of these health and preventative maintenance programs was not inexpensive, the company leaders believe that they are several thousands of dollars ahead by providing all of their employees with a more productive, safe, and healthy work environment.

How do you identify the fact that you have a drinking problem? When is it evident that you are engaging in alcohol abuse?

If you have ineffectively tried to discontinue your drinking or if you sworn to yourself that your drinking days are over and then you recognized that you were drinking in an excessive way just a few days later, chances are incredibly good that you have drinking problems. The bottom line is that if you have made an effort to terminate your drinking and cannot get this done, then your drinking is controlling you, rather than the other way around.

Likewise, if it takes larger amounts of alcohol to get the same “high,” more likely than not you need to become aware that you have a drinking problem.

You may be telling yourself that the rationale for your drinking is so that you can reduce your tension or get rid of the agony or depression that you feel. Similarly, you may be trying to steer clear of a hurtful circumstance and may be looking for something more useful, more helpful, or less sorrowful.

As you continue to drink, nonetheless, you will understand that drinking does not elicit the same high and you will also understand that drinking doesn’t help remove whatever produced your discomfort in the first place. You may also observe that the more you drink, the more depressed you feel.

As you continue to drink in an excessive way, regrettably, you may become alcohol dependent and, as a consequence, you may add another major predicament to manage rather than unearthing more efficient and healthy ways of dealing with your alcohol generated predicament.

An Alcohol Evaluation is Probably Warranted

If you have concluded that you have a problem with your drinking, possibly the most practical thing you can do for yourself is to call your medical doctor or healthcare professional and schedule an appointment for a complete physical and for an appraisal of your drinking circumstances.

If you in fact believe that you have a crucial problem with your drinking, it may be a good idea to get prepared to hear that you need to get alcohol rehab.

At this juncture, what are your alternatives? You can without a doubt refuse to see your physician and continue your pattern of abusive drinking.

It really doesn’t take a genius, to the contrary, to realize that chronic, hazardous drinking, if left untreated, will degenerate over time and most likely bring about an early death. For that reason, your best choice is to face your drinking situation and get the alcohol treatment you need.

The Sham of the Functioning Alcohol Dependent Person

It is somewhat paradoxical to note the fact that numerous people who are addicted to alcohol lead busy and active lives and have vehicles, jobs, pets, houses, families, and any number of material possessions similar to people who are not alcohol dependent.

Many of these “functional” alcohol addicted people may have never been apprehended for drunk driving and may have been lucky enough to avoid all alcohol generated legal difficulties. Despite this good fortune, nevertheless, these alcohol addicted individuals need to drink in order to operate on a day to day basis while upholding their facade as they associate with people outside their family.

Ask anyone who has seen them when they are out on a drunken binge or in a drunken stupor or ask a family member about the problem drinker’s alcoholism, nevertheless, and they will be quick to assert the truth of the drinker’s situation and the particulars about the alcoholic’s drinking circumstances and about his or her alcohol produced difficulties.

Why Do Individuals Addicted to Alcohol Fail to Deal With Their Drinking Problems?

As alcoholism research and statistics on alcohol abuse have underscored, no matter how evident the alcohol-related predicaments seem to those who interact with the alcoholic, alcohol addicted people usually deny that drinking is the basis of their alcohol generated difficulties. Not only this, but alcohol dependent individuals often blame their alcohol-related problems on other individuals or upon other situations that surround them rather than seeing their part in the issue.

The source of the issue is that alcohol dependency is a disease of the brain. Once the individual has become an alcoholic, he or she normally resorts to denial, manipulation, and deceit as a way of dealing with the fact that his or her drinking is out of control. And to make the situation more complex, the experience of alcohol withdrawal symptoms characteristically thwarts the alcohol addicted individual’s rare attempts to abruptly stop drinking. As miserable as the alcohol dependent person’s life is, nonetheless, the good news is that competent help is typically accessible – if the alcohol dependent person reaches out and seeks alcoholism therapy.

Summary

Conceding the fact that drinking is triggering issues in your day by day functioning is conceivably the simplest way to determine if you have a problem with your drinking. In other words, if your drinking is bringing about difficulties with your health, with your employment, in your relationships, with your finances, at school, or with the legal system, then you have a drinking problem that needs to be addressed.

If you have a drinking problem, additionally, this means that you are engaging in alcohol abuse.

While some drinkers may be able to pinpoint their “alcohol signs,” pinpoint their difficulties, and greatly decrease the quantity and incidence of their drinking, other drinkers, to the contrary, need to address their drinking problems by getting professional alcohol treatment. What is more, due to their propensity to deny the facts and distort the truth, alcohol addicted people definitely require quality alcohol counseling for their out-of-control drinking.

And finally, if you feel more depressed the more you drink, you will probably need to get develop a positive attitude so you can get therapy for your drinking problem and for your depression. Fortunately, by doing this you will not only address your drinking and depression problems but you will probably fortify your personal success and happiness as well.

One of the alcohol abuse facts that somehow escapes quite a few people’s awareness is that hazardous and excessive drinking often adversely affects relationships. Stated more precisely, to a fairly great extent, abusive and unhealthy drinking is to relationships what substance abuse is to a person’s health or what faulty brakes are to the safety of the driver of a vehicle. In all of these instances, the result is usually a terrible misfortune.

When the connection between unhealthy and irresponsible drinking and relationships is inspected a little more thoroughly, however, there are some defensible reasons why irresponsible and careless drinking and relationships don’t go together in a very positive or healthy fashion.

Hazardous and Heavy Drinking Decreases an Individual’s Inhibitions

First, careless and hazardous drinking lowers an individual’s inhibitions. This often means that a person who has been drinking has less control over what he or she does and says. The outcome is that individuals in a relationship who have been drinking are a lot more likely to engage in hurtful and angry verbal abuse and/or violent physical behavior that may not have taken place if neither person was drinking.

Heavy and Excessive Drinking Adversely Affects a Person’s Problem Solving, Reasoning, and Decision-Making Abilities

Second, abusive and hazardous drinking negatively impacts a person’s decision-making, reasoning, and problem solving skills and abilities. Indeed, if an individual uses incoherent problem solving, reasoning, and decision-making abilities, this usually adversely influences the options a person makes as well as her or his actions. Such a predicament, it’s emphasized, is catastrophe waiting to happen when relationships are concerned because of the number of decisions and troubles that need to be worked through a continual basis.

Excessive and Heavy Drinking Typically Affects the Drinker’s Finances in a Detrimental Manner

Third, unhealthy and irresponsible drinking typically impacts the drinker’s finances in an extremely detrimental way. In spite of everything, whether somebody buys his or her alcohol at a nightclub, sports event, restaurant, liquor store, or drinks at home, excessive and irresponsible drinking is not cheap. And if cash is spent on drinking rather than on food, car or truck payments, the rent, utilities, credit card bills, the mortgage , and so on, fundamental problems in a relationship are probably right around the corner.

Excessive and Hazardous Drinking Usually Manifests Itself at Work

Fourth, unhealthy and irresponsible drinking regularly manifests itself at a person’s place of employment. To the extent that this happens, an individual’s ability to make a living is seriously placed in a dangerous situation and this, in turn, adversely impacts an individual’s relationships.

Heavy and Abusive Drinking Often Contributes to Problems With the Law

Finally, careless and hazardous drinking frequently contributes to complications with the law. Unmistakably one or more ”driving under the influence” arrests, for example, can’t do anything but hurt a relationship from a psychological and from a financial frame of mind.

You Need Motivation and Inspiration to Get Alcohol Treatment So You Can Stop Your Abusive and Hazardous Drinking And Find More Self Esteem and Happiness

So what is the message to be taken away from this discussion? First, if you want to have solid, meaningful relationships in your life, steer clear from hazardous and careless drinking. Second, if you are a drinker and you are in a relationship, if you want to keep this relationship or perhaps make it even stronger, then make sure you always drink responsibly or not at all. And third, if you have alcohol problems that are negatively affecting your relationship, please seek more alcohol information and consider getting alcohol therapy.

Conclusion

To wrap things up, it can be determined that abusive and hazardous drinking adversely has an effect on an individual’s relationships mainly because it lowers a person’s inhibitions and results in insensitive and mean verbal battles and/or violent behavior.

It can also be concluded that abusive and irresponsible drinking negatively impacts a person’s reasoning, decision-making, and problem solving skills, as a consequence leading to dysfunctional choices and behavior.

In a related way, irresponsible and unhealthy drinking commonly adversely affects the drinker’s finances, therefore affecting the money management skills of the individuals who are actively involved in the relationship. Not only this but excessive and unhealthy drinking generally adversely affects a relationship because of alcohol-related work troubles.

And finally, unhealthy and excessive drinking regularly contributes to alcohol related problems with the law like DWIs, jail time, and penalties and fines. Clearly, these legal issues negatively affect most intimate relationships.

Nearly eight months ago I had breakfast with a thirty-four-year-old man named Alexander who experiences intense depression, has relationship issues, and who is addicted to drugs and alcohol. As mentioned by Alexander, it is his alcoholism and drug addiction and his intense depression that had the most to do with his perpetual relationship problems.

I recollect hearing that a history of mental health concerns, chemical dependency, and hazardous drinking often take place in the same family. Furthermore, I have read that under such circumstances, a person needs to get counseling for both medical problems and that addiction and mental health issues often occur in the same individual.

As explained by Alexander, he is so defeated by his relationship issues and by both of his medical issues that he essentially has little or no aspiration to achieve much of anything. What is particularly unfortunate about this is that earlier in his life, Alexander managed to complete four semesters of graduate school in astronomy.

Alexander’s situation makes me wonder if he is an example of a person who can address his drug abuse and alcohol drinking problems and do something constructive about these difficulties or if he is an individual who has to hit the very bottom before he gets drug and alcohol treatment that results in long lasting recovery.

The Need For a Treatment Program He Can Believe In and a Psychologist He Can Trust

If it would be helpful I would imagine that I could recommend numerous websites that could possibly help him locate information about drug abuse symptoms, the stages of alcoholism, substance abuse information, and relationship difficulties. From my vantage point, nevertheless, Alexander needs to locate a rehabilitation program he can believe in and follow through over the long haul and locate a healthcare professional he can trust.

I could be incorrect but it seems to make sense that Alexander more likely than not needs to look in the mirror regarding his drug addiction signs and alcoholic symptoms and acknowledge the fact that he cannot abuse drugs or even drink in moderation if he wants to get sober, remain sober, and start on the route to long-lasting sobriety.

It may be asked how treatment would help his drug and alcohol dependency. For starters, there are quite a few newly developed doctor-prescribed meds that can help Alexander through the alcohol and drug detoxification process, through his withdrawal symptoms, and help him avoid an alcohol or a drug relapse.

Second, Alexander would learn to admit the fact that there is completely nothing productive about drug addiction and abusive and careless drinking and that involving himself in one or both circumstances is the map to a premature death, poor work and school performance, financial difficulties, legal problems, deteriorating health, and shattered relationships.

Third, treatment for his depression and for his relationship issues might help him cope with these psychological issues more effectively and possibly create less of a need for him to involve himself in addictive behavior.

The Relevance of Recovery Groups Like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous

There are more likely than not numerous friends, other people, and family members who would want to help Alexander with his substance abuse and his careless drinking. He more likely than not would experience greater sympathy from a support group such as Narcotics Anonymous or Alcoholics Anonymous, then again, instead of getting guidance from people who rarely drink or who have never used drugs.

When People Do Things They Like and About Which They Are Zealous

There’s a school of thought in life that declares that people who accomplish things they like and something about which they are ardent reach a fantastic place in life. Stated more explicitly, when people do what they love, they rarely if ever experience boredom or an uneventful life. If they involve themselves in something that is satisfying, furthermore, they become more fulfilled and experience more contentment and delight in life and in their relationships.

When this is thought about for a short while it becomes obvious that this uplifting viewpoint is widely divergent from a life that is grounded in drug and alcohol addiction because such a lifestyle removes the happiness and delight that life has to offer.

Due to the fact that Alexander lacks the willpower to carry out much of anything in his life, it is plain to see that he urgently needs a little hope for a more productive existence. And the unfortunate thing is that hope is all around Alexander if he could only get to the place in life to get the counseling he needs for his severe depression and drug dependence and alcohol addiction and stay with his treatment routine.

Better Relationships, Happiness, Productive Change, Self Respect, and a Wonderful Life Are Possibilities

Alexander is clearly too young to be dejected in life. He doesn’t comprehend this at this time in his life but if he can learn how to remove himself from alcohol and drugs through alcohol and drug rehab and get the treatment he requires for his acute depression, he can turn his life around and start living with direction, self-respect, and passion.

More meaningful relationships, happiness, a wonderful life, self respect, and affirmative change are certainly a reality for Alexander if only he could become inspired to get the medical treatment he needs, follow through with his therapy regimen, live his life in a dependency-free and healthy way, and learn how to develop a more positive attitude about his life.

Russ got suspended from high school when he was sixteen years old and eventually got a job at a local pet food manufacturer. For the last eight years he has gained a reputation as a hard-working and diligent employee who only once in a blue moon calls off work due to illness.

About eight months ago he started dating a young woman named Emma. They seemed to hit it off immediately and looked like they had a lot of fun together.

The Hazardous and Heavy Drinking Begins

When Russ met Emma, he rarely drank. This situation totally changed when Emma and Russ started dating on a fairly regular basis. In fact, their relationship was going fine until Emma called Russ one night nearly 2:30 AM and said that she had to call off their relationship and that she couldn’t explain the reason at that moment.

The next morning before he went to work, Russ went to her apartment and found out that Emma had already moved out. Russ took this really hard. In reality, he was astounded because they seemed to be getting along so very well.

When Heavy and Hazardous Drinking Leads to Problems at Work

So what did Russ do? Rather than working through his agony and pain, he started getting drunk just about every night. It didn’t take long for his coworkers or for his supervisor to notice that Russ was coming to work late at least once per week and that he frequently called off ill. Furthermore, some of his co-workers made an appointment with staff in Human Resources Department and said that Russ routinely came to work with a strong odor of alcohol on his clothes or on his breath.

Russ’s manager heard about all of this from Human Resources and also from Russ’s co-workers. So one Tuesday afternoon he called Russ into his office. He told Russ that he had recently noticed a definite change in his sick time, work performance, attendance, and in his behavior.

When a Supervison Can Motivate an Employee to Get Help For His or Her Heavy and Irresponsible Drinking

Russ’s boss also articulated that a number of his fellow employees reported him to Human Resources because he had been coming to work with the strong smell of alcohol. His manager then stated the following: “Russ, your fellow employees are not reporting you to the HR Department to get you into any trouble or because they don’t like you but instead because they are concerned about you. And I care too. I don’t want to pry into your life, but it is evident that you are displaying some of the basic symptoms and signs of problem drinking. Consequently, I want you to go and see a healthcare practitioner in the employee’s assistance program to discuss your drinking behavior and your depression.”

“Russ, I’m no doctor or a psychiatrist, but I have seen more than a few of my relatives and friends suffer through some extremely negative alcohol side effects. What is more, I have also experienced the signs of alcoholism first-hand in my own family. When individuals suffer from problems with drinking, these difficulties not only affect the drinker, but they also make an impact on his or her family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and relatives.”

Russ respected his boss quite a lot and as a result followed through with his suggestion the next work day when he called and scheduled an appointment with a healthcare professional in the employee’s assistance program.

Russ is Still Depressed But Experiences Some Hope That He Will Get His Life Back on Track and Begin Feeling More Happiness

Even though Russ didn’t automatically feel any better or less depressed about the loss of Emma, he felt some comfort knowing that his supervisor and his fellow employees wanted what’s best for him and cared about him. This gave Russ some emotional relief for the first time in more than a few weeks and he actually felt some hope that he would get back on track with his life and and begin to experience more happiness.
