If you are looking for an efficient solution for how to improve self esteem, then the art of supporting optimistic thoughts could be just what you need. It is always feasible to notice something to be cheerful about and grateful for, even in unhappy times. This is a terrific beginning point for gradually feeling better and better about our life and about the world around us.

Let’s say you just got 50% in an exam – you have a choice to feel bad about barely passing, or to feel great that you didn’t fail. So, for every circumstances in life we always have a choice about how we feel. You have this alternative to let life crunch you down and feel dejected, or you can adopt an optimistic frame of mind and have a bright and successful life.

But why is it worthwhile to nurture an optimist’s point of view in looking at life, and how to improve self esteem?

Well, optimism has been linked to happy mood and great morale. This is certainly true for academic, athletic, armed forces, occupational and political success, as well as to popularity, to excellent health and even to long life and freedom from hurt.

There are more and more reports that the incidence of pessimism and depressive sickness is on the increase in our society. No age grouping is resistant to depression. Notwithstanding this, on average depression is beginning to impact folks much more strongly in youth than it once did. So in essence it is a quandary for every age group these days.

Here are several characteristics of pessimistic demeanor and why being an optimist really pays off:

1. Pessimists usually believe that poor situations are their own mistake and are likely to go on forever and a day and destroy everything. Of course. this kind of position is extremely destructive for a person’s self respect. The truth is optimists are confronted with the indentical hard knocks of this society. What differs is the way they describe their misfortune, it’s the opposite way. They incline to consider defeat is just a temporary setback, that its causes are confined to this one case. Such a mentality is indispensable in learning how to improve self esteem.

Optimists tend to concentrate on and plan for the ‘crisis’ at hand. If an optimist experiences a sticky situation, they will look for what they can discover from it rather than beat themselves up. They reinforce their self respect by facing squarely up to problems and working even harder to surmount them. They won’t state “things will never become better,” “If I failed once, it will happen again” and “If I receive misfortune in one portion of my life, then it will occur in my whole life-time.”

null Optimists will each time act with whatever they have to hand and when they are considering how to improve self esteem they don’t rely on what other individuals might think of them. They find no need to control or take advantage of people. They commonly draw folks towards them. Their cheery view rubs off on other people and help to change things for the better. Optimism seems a socially desirable trait in all communities. People who are downhearted and propagate discord are not favoured, while those who are upbeat get better treatment and are more widely accepted. Those who are upbeat often get voted into positions of authority and people often ask for their advice.

3. If you possess an optimistic outlook you are likely to get less stressed. In contrast, pessimists are likely to react to nerve-racking events by denying that they exist or by avoiding dealing with problems.

4. You will be much better furnished to fight unwellness if you have a optimistic outlook on life. Optimists age especially well and aren’t as afflicted with the ordinary ailments of middle aged and elderly people. And they get to outlast those people who are prone to negative thoughts. You can understand that using a system for how to improve self esteem will in all likelihood lengthen your life and decrease the amount of times you become ill.

So why not be an optimist now and think positively for a more fulfilled life? Like everybody else you are bound to hit lows but you have the power to lift yourself out of the mud and get back on the right track. And why not act as an inspiration to others? By showing other individuals how to improve self esteem you will reinforce your own learning and also help them to transform their own lives.

Nearly eight months ago I had breakfast with a thirty-four-year-old man named Alexander who experiences intense depression, has relationship issues, and who is addicted to drugs and alcohol. As mentioned by Alexander, it is his alcoholism and drug addiction and his intense depression that had the most to do with his perpetual relationship problems.

I recollect hearing that a history of mental health concerns, chemical dependency, and hazardous drinking often take place in the same family. Furthermore, I have read that under such circumstances, a person needs to get counseling for both medical problems and that addiction and mental health issues often occur in the same individual.

As explained by Alexander, he is so defeated by his relationship issues and by both of his medical issues that he essentially has little or no aspiration to achieve much of anything. What is particularly unfortunate about this is that earlier in his life, Alexander managed to complete four semesters of graduate school in astronomy.

Alexander’s situation makes me wonder if he is an example of a person who can address his drug abuse and alcohol drinking problems and do something constructive about these difficulties or if he is an individual who has to hit the very bottom before he gets drug and alcohol treatment that results in long lasting recovery.

The Need For a Treatment Program He Can Believe In and a Psychologist He Can Trust

If it would be helpful I would imagine that I could recommend numerous websites that could possibly help him locate information about drug abuse symptoms, the stages of alcoholism, substance abuse information, and relationship difficulties. From my vantage point, nevertheless, Alexander needs to locate a rehabilitation program he can believe in and follow through over the long haul and locate a healthcare professional he can trust.

I could be incorrect but it seems to make sense that Alexander more likely than not needs to look in the mirror regarding his drug addiction signs and alcoholic symptoms and acknowledge the fact that he cannot abuse drugs or even drink in moderation if he wants to get sober, remain sober, and start on the route to long-lasting sobriety.

It may be asked how treatment would help his drug and alcohol dependency. For starters, there are quite a few newly developed doctor-prescribed meds that can help Alexander through the alcohol and drug detoxification process, through his withdrawal symptoms, and help him avoid an alcohol or a drug relapse.

Second, Alexander would learn to admit the fact that there is completely nothing productive about drug addiction and abusive and careless drinking and that involving himself in one or both circumstances is the map to a premature death, poor work and school performance, financial difficulties, legal problems, deteriorating health, and shattered relationships.

Third, treatment for his depression and for his relationship issues might help him cope with these psychological issues more effectively and possibly create less of a need for him to involve himself in addictive behavior.

The Relevance of Recovery Groups Like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous

There are more likely than not numerous friends, other people, and family members who would want to help Alexander with his substance abuse and his careless drinking. He more likely than not would experience greater sympathy from a support group such as Narcotics Anonymous or Alcoholics Anonymous, then again, instead of getting guidance from people who rarely drink or who have never used drugs.

When People Do Things They Like and About Which They Are Zealous

There’s a school of thought in life that declares that people who accomplish things they like and something about which they are ardent reach a fantastic place in life. Stated more explicitly, when people do what they love, they rarely if ever experience boredom or an uneventful life. If they involve themselves in something that is satisfying, furthermore, they become more fulfilled and experience more contentment and delight in life and in their relationships.

When this is thought about for a short while it becomes obvious that this uplifting viewpoint is widely divergent from a life that is grounded in drug and alcohol addiction because such a lifestyle removes the happiness and delight that life has to offer.

Due to the fact that Alexander lacks the willpower to carry out much of anything in his life, it is plain to see that he urgently needs a little hope for a more productive existence. And the unfortunate thing is that hope is all around Alexander if he could only get to the place in life to get the counseling he needs for his severe depression and drug dependence and alcohol addiction and stay with his treatment routine.

Better Relationships, Happiness, Productive Change, Self Respect, and a Wonderful Life Are Possibilities

Alexander is clearly too young to be dejected in life. He doesn’t comprehend this at this time in his life but if he can learn how to remove himself from alcohol and drugs through alcohol and drug rehab and get the treatment he requires for his acute depression, he can turn his life around and start living with direction, self-respect, and passion.

More meaningful relationships, happiness, a wonderful life, self respect, and affirmative change are certainly a reality for Alexander if only he could become inspired to get the medical treatment he needs, follow through with his therapy regimen, live his life in a dependency-free and healthy way, and learn how to develop a more positive attitude about his life.

Samuel was a thirty-nine-year-old court reporter who was fed up with feeling depressed everyday and fed up with his hazardous drinking behavior. Stated simply, he hated the hangovers he experienced on a recurring basis, he was sick of feeling tired every morning, he missed his old enthusiasm for doing various things he liked, he was tired of going through shattered relationship after shattered relationship due to his hazardous drinking, and he was annoyed with himself for spending his hard-earned money on a useless habit.

In addition he was fed up with paying for alcohol-related attorney fees, he was disgusted with how physically unfit he was, he hated the fact that he had to go to court for his second DWI, he was bored with his drinking friends, and he was aggravated with the many times he failed an alcohol test at his place of employment.

Besides the perceptible alcohol-related health predicaments he now experienced, probably the worst part of his drinking behavior was the unreliable and devious person he had become. In his heart he realized that he had been lying about his drinking behavior to his family, friends and relatives and he also knew he had been less than honest with himself about the “beneficial” effects of drinking. Not only this but he justified guzzling four or five drinks before going to social events and he also justified needing one or two drinks as soon as he awakened so that he could manage the “stress” at work.

His Depression and His Abusive Drinking Result in Significant Changes in His Life

Undoubtedly Samuel was sick of putting up with the negative outcomes of his depression and his careless and hazardous drinking and finally made up his mind that something significant had to change in his life. So he determined that he would quit drinking, develop a new circle of friends, start exercising, start focusing on becoming a more healthy person, get professional counseling, and involve himself in some worthwhile hobbies. Stated simply, Samuel got to the point in his life during which he realized that he hit the bottom of the barrel in his life and was now prepared to begin the slow climb back to health.

One of the ways that Samuel put his “plan” into action was by asking for a transfer at his workplace. When his request was approved, he moved 950 miles away to a new state. If nothing else, this beyond doubt made making new buddies and dissociating himself from his old buddies much simpler. Then he went to see a physician in his new city and made an appointment for a thorough physical and psychological exam.

Samuel Meets With a Healthcare Professional About His Hazardous and Irresponsible Drinking and His Depression

After meeting with the healthcare professional and taking a number of laboratory tests, it was concluded that Samuel had made the unfortunate change from alcohol abuse to alcoholism and therefore was in need of alcohol treatment and alcohol detox. At this time, the healthcare professional made it a point to go over the diverse signs of alcoholism, the symptoms of alcoholism, and information about long term alcohol effects with Samuel. The healthcare practitioner then told Samuel that it was determined that he was clinically depressed and in need of treatment for this medical problem.

Samuel Makes up His Mind to Revitalize His Body by Taking Vitamins, Drinking Spring Water, Living an Alcohol-Free Lifestyle, Eating Wholesome Foods, and Working Out

Due to his enthusiasm for following through with the rehab therapy, after three weeks of inpatient treatment, Samuel was ready to start treatment on an outpatient basis. At this point in time, he started working at his new job and over the weeks began building up his body by taking vitamins and minerals, working out, eating nutritious foods, drinking distilled water, and living an alcohol-free lifestyle. Samuel also attended to his spiritual yearnings by joining the local Congregational church and participating in regular services.

After about eight months of outpatient rehab during which time he never suffered through a relapse, Samuel quit going to alcohol rehab and instead started going five times per week to local AA meetings. Attending these meetings helped Samuel maintain his alcohol-free style of life, they provided him with the support he sought after, and they served as a unceasing reminder of the dangerous consequences that are related to unhealthy drinking.

After going to AA meetings roughly three-and-a-half months Samuel felt that he was ready for a relationship and so he started dating Janet, a young lady he met at church. It clearly astonished Samuel how much more ready he was for a dating relationship now that he had his careless and abusive drinking under control. In actual fact it also surprised Samuel how much better life was now that he wasn’t under the control of his hazardous and careless drinking. Life was now worthwhile and loaded with potential that he could have never wished for or fulfilled when he was engaged in abusive and excessive drinking just a few short months ago.

A Success Story That is a Statement of the Value of Alcohol Rehab and the Power of Positive Change

Samuel’s success story is a tribute to the significance of alcohol therapy and the power of positive change. As Samuel reflected on his newfound self worth and motivation for involving himself in worthwhile, healthy activities, he was actually thankful that he decided to do something worth while about his excessive and abusive drinking rather than giving into his depression and into the lure of his alcoholism. The result: he has more energy now compared with any time in his adult life, he is in command of his life rather than letting himself suffer under the control of his alcohol addiction, he is involved in a wholesome relationship, his life now has a positive direction, and he likes his new job responsibilities.

Many people suffer from low levels of self-esteem. This is typically because of the way society portrays they should look and they are unable to live up to these expectations. However, there are several ways in which a person can boast their self-esteem regardless of this image.

For this reason people tend to turn to materialistic items in which to feel better about their own lives. This allows for them to feel better about their current state of appearance and to upgrade their outward appearance simply but adding something new. Depending on a persons age, race, religion, and sex will change what type of items they desire.

These factors include: age, race, religion, and sex. These factors are significantly important because they divide people into difference groups in which they compare themselves with other people in the group. For example, a male that is older would compare himself with other older men. People in this category value the idea of men’s watches and can base their status and self-esteem off of such.

Women possess this same type of status desire. This type of status can also come in the form of watches. However, it is typically seem in things such as a crystal necklace. This possession can say a lot about the current financial status of a woman and can make them feel a lot better about themselves.

Material possessions are not the only way in which a person can feel better about themselves. The persons overall general look before these materialistic items are just as important as well. People in society today are always craving the need to be the skinniest, the prettiest, the most built, and to have the smoothest skin.

For this reason for both men and women alike the desire of the knowledge of how to get rid of acne is a consistently growing demand. Luckily there are several options available that will fulfill this need. There are also options that are relatively inexpensive depending on your specific needs. However, your current acne state is rather severe it may cost you a pretty penny but will greatly boast your self-esteem in the long-run. For this reason you will want to consider how great of a need it is to you.

Depending on the persons level of acne will depend on how greatly it affects their daily life. Acne can come on rather strong, especially in adolescents and can greatly affect their self-esteem. No person should have to go through this unfortunate state for long. Therefore, immediate treatment options should be sought out.

Dante was a seventeen year old high school senior who was exhibiting quite a few alcohol-related issues at school. As a result, the principal told him that he had to see Miss Johnson, the school psychologist, before he would be allowed to come back to class.

Later that afternoon when Dante went home after school, he had to go over his school situation with his parents. His Mom and Dad were “relatively traditional” and explained to Dante that getting suspended from school was not an acceptable educational game plan. They explained to Dante that failing to graduate from high school would probably be like a lead weight around his legs that could probably impede his educational achievement for the remainder of his adult life. In addition, Dante’s Mom and Dad were very dismayed that he was drinking in the first place and drinking with his classmates in the second.

His Mother and Father informed Dante that even though he may be a teen, he needs to realize rather quickly that drinking is the route to pain, ill health, financial problems, and failure.

It was obvious that his parents were completely in concurrence with Dante’s principal and explained to Dante that he needs to see Miss Johnson, the school counselor. After his chat with his Mom and Dad, Dante finally agreed to see Miss Johnson the next day. So Dante phoned the school and scheduled an appointment to see Miss Johnson the next day during his first period class.

The Counselor Asks Dante if He Comprehends Why His Recent Alcohol-Related Activities Were Such a Cause For Concern By the School Administrators

When Dante arrived at his scheduled appointment with Miss Johnson, she at once analyzed all of the alcohol-related problems Dante had experienced and asked him if he knew why his recent alcohol-related behavior signaled such alarm.

Quite truthfully, Dante questioned why the principal explained to him that he had to see a school psychologist. As he stated to Miss Johnson, why should he see a professional psychologist about his drinking situation? Since almost all of his friends drink about as much as he does, for all intents and purposes, drinking is no big thing. Stated more directly, if just about everybody is drinking, why is this such a major concern?

Miss Johnson asked Dante when he started to drink. He said that some of his older buddies introduced him to drinking hard liquor when he was twelve or thirteen years old and getting ready to enter the seventh grade.

Miss Johnson informed Dante that while his pals may in fact drink more than he does and that they may be a negative influence on him, the facts are that he is the one who is getting suspended from school due to alcohol-related absenteeism, fighting, and delinquency, not his buddies. Not only this but Miss Johnson also underscored the fact that Dante, and not his classmates, is the one who is failing and who is missing almost two days of school per week due to his alcohol related issues. Finally, Miss Johnson highlighted the fact that because of his drinking situation, Dante is getting into a harmful cycle of alcohol abuse that can ultimately wreck his hopes, dreams and aspirations.

In short, Dante’s involvement with teenage alcohol abuse was beginning to impede his ability to act like a responsible young man. As conveyed by Miss Johnson, “Just because most of your peers drink hard liquor, wine, wine coolers, or beer does not mean that it is the appropriate behavior for you.”

Dante Learns That In the Long Run He Must Be Responsible For Himself In Order to Avert Destructive, Damaging, Dangerous, and Unhealthy Situations In the Foreseeable Future

Miss Johnson informed Dante that other people can definitely influence a person in a negative way, but that the individual herself or himself has to at the end of the day take responsibility for herself or himself in order to steer clear of destructive, unhealthy, damaging, and dangerous circumstances in the future.

Luckily, Miss Johnson was very well equipped for her scheduled appointment with Dante. She showed him reports and research studies she had underlined that outlined diverse drinking facts and statistics that applied to most people in general. Then she showed Dante a lot of information that applied particularly to teenagers.

For instance, Miss Johnson stressed the difference between alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse and informed Dante that people who continue to drink in an excessive manner more often than not become alcoholic.

Miss Johnson also articulated the concept of binge drinking which she defined as follows: drinking five or more drinks in one sitting for males and consuming four or more drinks in one sitting for females.

The Psychologist Presents More Than a Few Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism Statistics and Facts

Then Miss Johnson verbalized various alcohol facts and the following eight alcohol abuse statistics:

1. According to one study, approximately 11% of 8th-graders, 22% of 10th-graders, and 27% of 12th-graders reported that they engaged in excessive drinking.

2. Between 48% and 64% of the individuals who die in fires have blood alcohol levels demonstrating inebriation.

3. Children who are drinking alcohol by 7th grade are more likely to display delinquent behavior, substance abuse, and academic problems in both high school and junior high school.

4. In the U.S., 33% of all suicides, 25% of all emergency room admissions, and more than 50% of all homicides and incidents of domestic violence are alcohol-related.

5. In the U.S. among drivers between the ages of 15 and 20, deadly accidents involving a single vehicle at night are three times more likely to be alcohol-related than to other deadly accidents.

6. In the U.S., more than 40 percent of the individuals who start drinking before the age of 13 will develop alcohol abuse or alcohol dependence at some time in their lives.

7. In the United States, by the time they are high school seniors, 80% of teens have used alcohol and 62% have been drunk.

8. Treatment for alcohol dependency has been shown to decrease criminal activity up to 80% among chronic offenders, has reduced their health care costs, decreased their homelessness, and increased their rate of employment.

Dante Receives An Important Primer on the Facts Regarding the Long Term and the Short Term Effects of Teenage Alcohol Abuse and Alcohol Dependency

After Miss Johnson stated the aforementioned alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction statistics and facts, it was plain to see that what Miss Johnson taught Dante was a real surprise to him. Why? Because for the first time in his young life, someone not only made the effort to put in plain words the long term and the short term results of alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency, but she also made the effort to demonstrate what she was saying with alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency facts and statistics that related to people in general, and especially to adolescents.

Undeniably, it was almost as if a light went on and Dante promptly comprehended why he should not be engaging in excessive and abusive drinking with or without his peers any longer. Dante thanked Miss Johnson for her concern and for the information she discussed.

Miss Johnson then asked Dante how he felt about getting a physical examination and an alcohol evaluation for the alcohol rehabilitation he would probably need. Dante thought about this for a minute and then agreed to get a thorough physical and to go through a complete evaluation of his drinking circumstances so that he could start an alcohol abuse or alcohol addiction rehab program promptly. After meeting with Miss Johnson, not only did he sense that he had established an enhanced relationship with her, but it was also obvious that Dante’s personal happiness and self esteem had been augmented as he began to address his excessive and unhealthy drinking.

Roughly a week ago I read about a twenty-nine-year-old woman named Rachael who is manic depressive and who is also drug and alcohol dependent. I remember reading that under such circumstances, a person needs to get treatment for both medical problems and that mental health problems and chemical dependency commonly occur in the same individual. Additionally, I recollect hearing that a history of negative drinking, drug addiction, and/or mental health issues commonly occur in the same family.

Plainly, Rachael is so crushed by both of her medical problems and by her love and happiness conditions that she essentially has no energy to accomplish much of anything. What is particularly unfortunate about this is that earlier in her life, Rachael completed three years of college. Rachael’s situation makes me question if she is an illustration of a person who has to hit life’s bottom before he or she gets addiction counseling that leads to lasting recovery.

The Need For a Healthcare Practitioner She Trusts and a Counseling Regimen She Can Believe In

If I were in contact with Rachael I could advise her about quite a few blogs and websites that could possibly help her locate info about addiction and alcoholic behavior, pertinent chemical dependency information, facts about alcoholism and drugs, and info about addiction symptoms and alcoholism warning signs. From where I stand, nevertheless, Rachael needs to locate a healthcare practitioner she trusts and a treatment program she can believe in and follow over the long term. I could be incorrect but it seems logical to conclude that Rachael probably needs to accept the fact that she cannot drink in moderation or abuse drugs if she wants to get sober, remain sober, and start on the road to long-lasting sobriety.

I am aware that there are some newly created doctor-prescribed medications that can help Rachael avoid an alcohol or a drug relapse, help her through the alcohol and drug detoxification process, and help her through her withdrawal symptoms. Obviously it would be in Rachael’s best interests if she became familiar with these medications.

It is apparent that Rachael needs to accept the fact that there is absolutely nothing positive about unhealthy and excessive drinking and drug abuse and that engaging in one or both situations is the route to financial difficulties, shattered relationships, poor work and school performance, legal problems, deteriorating health, and a premature death.

The Relevance of Recovery Groups Like Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous

There are more likely than not several persons such as other people, friends, and family members who would love to help Rachael but she more likely than not would experience greater understanding from a support group such as Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous rather than listening to individuals who drink in moderation or who have never abused drugs.

When People Accomplish Things They Love and About Which They Are Ardent

There’s a philosophical viewpoint that emphasizes that individuals who do things they love and something about which they are dedicated reach an amazing place in life. Stated more exactly, when people do what they love, they almost never experience an uneventful life or boredom. If they get involved in something that is worthwhile, moreover, they become more complete and experience more gratification and joy in life.

To me, this sounds diametrically opposed to a life that is grounded in alcohol and drug addiction because such a lifestyle removes the satisfaction and delight that life offers.

Because Rachael doesn’t have the drive to succeed at doing much of anything in her life, it is obvious that she urgently needs some hope for a better existence. And the sad thing is that hope is almost everywhere around Rachael if she could only get to the place in life to get the therapy she needs for her mental illness and drug addiction and alcohol dependency and continue with her treatment program.

Happiness, a Wonderful Life, Self Respect, and Constructive Change Are a Reality

Rachael is simply too young to be beaten in life. She doesn’t understand this at the moment but if she can learn how to stay away from alcohol and drugs through drug and alcohol rehabilitation and get the treatment she requires for her manic depression issue, she can reorient her life and start living with passion, self-respect, and direction.

Happiness, a wonderful life, self respect, and productive change are certainly a reality for Rachael if only she could get motivated to get the medical treatment she requires, follow through with her treatment protocol, live her life in a healthy and drug and alcohol-free way, and develop a more positive attitude about life.

Are you healthy? Health offers many advantages to a person. Being healthy gives the person the ability to enjoy his or her live to its fullest.

Health truly does not depend on 6 pack abs or even hitting the sport fitness equipment daily. An important part of being healthy is that you feel good about who you are and about your body. People who are overweight may have a healthy self image. If your own self image need improvement, then take time to read on.

Self image is dependent on much more than just the size or shape of your body. Even if you cannot find the correct fat loss solution, you can still be healthy if you have a good self image. Health is not dependent on following an eating plan or going to the gym a certain number of days every week.

Many people do not have a healthy self image. They do not like the person that they see in the mirror each morning. They see themselves as being a person that has little worth in the world around them.

If you do not feel good about who you are, then you need to start each day by finding one thing that you do well. Perhaps it is that you are a good dad. Perhaps it is that you are a fiend that can be counted on. Maybe the one good thing is that you are punctual for your job. Start focusing on the positive and you will be a positive person.

Another important thing that will help you to feel good about yourself is to choose to be around positive people. Positive people will give you reasons to feel good about yourself and not tear you down. You need to balance those people that you find as draining with those that that can help to build you up.

At the same time you limit your negative people, you will also need to find those whom you can help. Everyone should be able to find at least one other person that they can help. Helping others is one of the quickest ways to lift up your own self esteem.

As you consider your health, realize that we are finding more and more connections between the mind and health. If you have a poor self image, it can directly affect your health. Therefore, it is important that you take the steps to improve your self image in order to be a healthy person.

Any person who has suffered with depression or who is currently suffering with depression will fully appreciate just how badly it can affect our lives. It is something that kind of creeps us on when we are least expecting it and then hits us for six. It can leave us feeling unable to complete the most simplest of tasks. The only way people can think is in the negative and the words of wisdom of people trying to help us only ever fall on deaf ears.

I am a person who suffered with depression when I was a teenager. This was mainly due to the fact that I had a speech impediment, a stutter. This was something that virtually destroyed my self-esteem and despite my best efforts to increase confidence the stutter would always come back to bite me and ruin what ever progress I had made.

I did not want to continue living in this way, with a constant fear of stuttering, being down and depressed. The main problem however was the fact that the people who were meant to be helping me, the speech and language therapists, were forever telling me that there was not a known cure for stuttering. Well this was great news; I really needed to hear that! How was I ever supposed to break free from the cycle of depression and how was I ever supposed to start thinking positively when I had people like this destroying whatever hope that I had?

I was very lucky to have an extremely supportive family who worked very hard to help me to get back to reality. They gave me the conviction to battle through and to start thinking in a more upbeat way. There was only one way to think and that was in a positive manner. There was no way that I was going to listen to the rubbish that these so called speech therapists were telling me. I also had to start working hard to enable this day to become a reality.

My dad once stated:

“There is no time for depression; you have too much work to do – to eradicate the stutter and to learn how to increase your overall confidence levels”.

I worked very hard and had some major battles with my inner demons but was eventually able to overcome the depression and the stuttering problem.

Do you have a lack of self-confidence? Would you like to find out ways in which you could increase your self-esteem and self-confidence? If you have answered either or both of these questions in the positive then this article may well be of interest to you.

Throughout my childhood and teenage years I was a person who had a real lack of self-belief. I have to say that in reality I did not like myself. I was extremely jealous and envious of other people and what they seemingly had in comparison to me. They seemingly had it so easy where as for me life was a constant struggle. What I needed was to some how gain confidence.

I had a stutter you see which did make life unbearable at times. I did eventually, at the age of twenty-two, manage to achieve fluency which of course was a great relief. I had however already spent the previous eighteen years struggling to cope with a stuttering or what is also known as stammering problem that virtually destroyed my entire confidence; it also meant that life was quite tough working where I did as a composite doors salesman.

What I did learn and what was eventually a catalyst to enabling me to eradicate the speech impediment was that I needed to start appreciating what I had in life. I had to stop feeling sorry for myself and I needed to work hard at improving the areas of my life that I was not happy with – such as my speech.

I also needed to become a more care-free person – less stress etc. My whole approach to life had to change; I was now going to start to think in a positive manner.

I was attempting a huge overhaul of the way in which I lived my life, it was far from easy. Ultimately however all of the effort did pay off and I was able to achieve fluency and a real confidence.

I hope that you will also be able to gain in confidence; I will be happy to help in any way that I can.

As a successful businessmen I am now involved in various projects including one which offers training for foster carers. This is a great deal fun as the lessons are very beneficial and the feedback thus far has been very positive.

I have succeeded at last. At what you may be asking? Well I have been fighting a war with the voices in my head or my demons as I call them. These are the voices which made me doubt myself; voices which stopped me from becoming a success; voices that were lowering my self-esteem and voices which were basically ruining my life. In this article I will be explaining about the ways in which I managed to win this war; ways which I hope will prove to be an inspiration to others.

I had this voice in my head for many years and I was not really aware of the hold it had over me or its true power until the age of about twenty-one. When thinking about it in a bit more depth I suppose that I actually saw these voices as a kind of a friend rather than an enemy. I am very much aware of just how crazy this sounds now.

I was unfortunate to develop a stutter when I was a young child and this speech impediment would continue to haunt my life until I finally overcame it when I was aged twenty-two. The stuttering had a detremental effect on my overall confidence and was the cause of a great deal of distress. I was more than keen to find a solution to this stuttering problem and of techniques that could enable me to gain self-confidence. This is when I started to really learn about the damaging affect that these demons can have on one’s life.

For many years they would talk to me and would some how manage to convince me to think in a negative manner. I was advised by these most annoying of voices to leave school at the age of 16 and this is something which I duly did. They advised me not to put in for a promotion at work as they stated that I would not gain the higher position – I listened to them and therefore did not even apply for the position. Why was I listening to this demonic voice? Well I suppose it was because I did not know of any other way.

I eventually realised that I needed to basically ignore these voices and that in fact I should do the opposite of what they had advised. This was far from easy in reality and we fought many battles along the way. At the end of this process I did manage to emerge victorious. I am now in a much better state of mind to have a positive career which at the moment is within the web promotion sector.

Believe in yourself, be decisive and work hard to eliminate your inner voices – your future success is dependent upon it.
